Courseguide: PM 312 Biblical Disciple-making I.: Resources

Course guide for students in Mr. Gucker's class, PM 312 Biblical Disciple-making I.

Asking Questions

At the heart of DiscipleWay is the practice of inductive Bible study.  Inductive Bible study is all about asking the right questions of the passage you are studying.

These questions include:

  • Who is the author of the passage being studied?
  • When was the passage written and under what circumstances?
  • How is the passage affected by its cultural-historical background?
  • What literary form is being used?

You may be able to answer some of these questions with the text of scripture before you, but you will ultimately need to consult secondary resources about the Bible to help you answer these questions.

Key Resources for Better Bible Study

Stuck on a question?

Sometimes it is hard to remember how to answer one of the questions for inductive Bible study.  For instance, students often have a hard time figuring out the difference between these two questions, and how to answer them:

  1. What is the immediate context/setting of the passage?
  2. How does the passage relate to its immediate context?
